Continuing professional development and training of persons with higher non-medical education for the healthcare sector
Since 2024, the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education of the School of Medicine of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has been implementing educational activities in the field of training of persons with higher non-medical education working in the healthcare sector.
The educational activities in this area are implemented in the form of specialization cycles, thematic improvement cycles and other measures of continuous professional development of healthcare professionals.
The training of professionals with higher non-medical education by the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education of School of Medicine of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National Universityis organized into a single educational space and is aimed not only at acquiring primary specialization, but also at continuous professional development throughout their professional career.

Training and professional development of people with higher non-medical education working in the healthcare sector is one of the priority areas for the development of the Centre’s postgraduate educational initiatives, which is supported by the high demand in the labor market, the shortage of highly qualified employees in the healthcare system and the opportunity for people with higher non-medical education to increase their professional competitiveness and acquire a new profession that is in great demand today.
Educational activities for this contingent of students can be divided into:
- specialization cycles - educational activities that result in students acquiring (confirming) the title of a specialist in a particular area to work in the healthcare sector;
- cycles of thematic improvement and other CPD activities - educational activities aimed at advanced training and continuous professional development of specialists already working in the healthcare sector.
The educational activities for this contingent of students are based on the Karazin’s signature combination of strong theoretical training by leading specialists of several faculties of the University, wide integration of modern teaching technologies into the educational process, including simulation technologies at the best simulation center in the country, and practical skills training in real practice at the clinical bases of the School of Medicine, in university laboratories, etc.
This area of the Centre’s work is ensured by a strong team of experienced professionals, modern, evidence-based and scientifically sound theoretical training, and a significant practical component that ensures the formation of professionals ready to work in today’s healthcare system.
