The Karazin Schools of Postgraduate Medical Education are super-departmental or, often, inter-faculty associations of leading scientific and pedagogical staff and clinicians that provide multidirectional, comprehensive and fundamental component of training of postgraduate medical education students of all categories in a particular field. The creation of the Schools Institute was a response to the challenges of today, the rapid development of medical science and the growing amount of professional information that require the introduction of new approaches to training healthcare professionals to ensure their professional competence in real clinical practice.
Teachers of the Karazin Schools participate in the training of applicants for higher education at the undergraduate level, provide training for graduates in internships, conduct cycles of secondary medical specialization and cycles of specialization for persons without higher medical education, conduct educational activities in the field of continuous professional development of health care workers, which, in fact, ensure the formation of an integral multi-stage system of training and advanced training of physicians, with the latter being a mandatory component of the educational process.
A head is appointed for each Karazin School from among the leading specialists, the most experienced clinicians and renowned scientists (usually the head of the specialized department of the School of Medicine). The information and organizational support of the students at all stages of the educational process is provided by the coordinators of the Karazin Schools (in terms of the topics of educational events, content of the curricula, organization of the educational process, forms of control, etc.) and the specialists of the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education (in terms of accepting and processing the students’ documents, concluding contracts, fixing tuition fees, preparing and submitting documents on successful completion of educational events, preparing and submitting orders, etc.).

In addition, some of the Karazin Schools, within their competence, conduct health education and raise the level of knowledge of non-medical specialties in the field of medical and preventive knowledge, developing among the population the skills of a healthy lifestyle, rational nutrition, active longevity, preservation of beauty and health, emergency care in critical conditions, simple medical procedures, disease prevention, nursing, child-rearing, etc.
