Karazin School of Neurology, Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology
The School provides undergraduate training in the School’s specialities, offers internships to graduates, invites healthcare professionals to secondary medical specialisation cycles, internships and numerous CPD events with the award of CPD points, and conducts specialisation cycles for people with higher non-medical education working in the healthcare sector in clinical psychology and psychotherapy.
The educational activities of the School provide fundamental interdisciplinary theoretical training of students based on the latest data of scientific research and evidence-based medicine with the wide integration of modern simulation training technologies on the basis of the best simulation centre in the country and in real clinical practice at the clinical bases of the School of Medicine. The clinical base of the School, where students practice their skills in real clinical practice, is the State Institution “Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry and Narcology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” – one of the leading specialised healthcare institutions and a powerful scientific and methodological centre of national importance with almost 100 years of glorious history.
The School is headed by a renowned scientist and clinician, Head of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Narcology and Medical Psychology, Doctor of Medicine, Full Professor, Neurologist Tamara MISHCHENKO – Honoured Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Academician of the Department of Mental Health Care of the Academy of Higher Medical Education of Ukraine, Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Neurologists, Psychiatrists and Narcologists of Ukraine, Vice President of the Ukrainian Stroke Association, author of more than 400 scientific works, including monographs, reference books, guidelines, patents for inventions, scientific supervisor of 20 PhD and 3 doctoral dissertations, member of the dissertation council for the defence of doctoral and PhD dissertations in neurology, psychiatry and narcology, member of the European Academy of Neurology and the European Stroke Society, co-author of orders of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, national standards and protocols for the provision of medical care to patients with neurological pathology, editor of the International Journal of Neurology, International Journal STROKE, member of the editorial boards of 5 Ukrainian specialised medical journals with over 40 years of experience in scientific, pedagogical and clinical activities.
The school’s educational activities are supported by a powerful interdepartmental scientific and pedagogical team, which includes leading specialists of the country. Following the interdisciplinary approach to the organisation of events in the field of postgraduate education of neurologists, psychiatrists, narcologists, specialists in medical psychology, psychotherapy and mental health, the training of students of certain educational events is carried out by scientific and pedagogical specialists of other departments of the School of Medicine within their competence.
